Deryk Barnes; 21; chicago native; drummer for between us
• Deryk Matthew Barnes was the last child out of 5 born on October 13, 1987. He has 2 older sisters and 2 older brothers with a 5 year age gap. Needless to say, he wasn't exactly planned, but to make up for it his parents always tried to spoil him as much as possible as a sort of compensation for their bad timing. His family lived in north New Jersey for their entire lives until their father had to relocate to the suburbs right outside Chicago when Deryk was only 2 1/2.
•Deryk was always the self proclaimed family "ham" since before he could walk. He made it his mission to be in every single video and picture ever taken in his home or at school. He used to put on plays for his family at Christmas or Thanksgiving events, or at the family reunions. He has this powerful magnetism about him that he used to his advantage when he was younger, and manipulated/persuaded his older siblings or cousins to act or sing in his little productions.
• Music was always a pretty big part of his life; his dad, Patrick, was a psychiatrist by day and a guitar playing, pot smoking hippie by night. He used to accompany his dad on different shows and his father would humor him by letting him lug his guitar case. His mother, Ashley, was a home-maker who home-schooled and taught piano to pass the time.
•Deryk's father, the resident psychiatrist, diagnosed him with ADHD very early on in his childhood but instead of drugging him up, he put music in his face instead. He let him try piano, guitar and drums, all of which Deryk can plan now. Deryk liked drums the best and has been playing since he was 5.
• Deryk was always (and still is) really goofy and childish. He was the kid in class that wore the sweatpants with the tight elastic banding around his ankles everyday and brought his pokemon cards to school to show off. He spent his lunches arguing with his friends about which Dragon Ball Z character was better or battling pokemon through their gameboys. That's where he met his ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/community.gif) bffl. They've pretty much been mistaken as a gay couple ever since.
• For some strange reason, people actually liked Deryk in school. He made people laugh and overall he was just a really nice guy. He never did well in school, he was a C average student. His parents blame his ADHD and hes always been insecure about his intelligence. He always asks people why things are the way they are, or what something is or how it got that way. He doesn't do it to be annoying, although some think so because of his personality.
